Hoping someone will help me here. I believe Wayne made his own fuel tank? Is this a good idea?

Hi Mason

I made my auxiliary fuel tank to supply fuel to my Aqua-Hot and generator. Since the tank was separate, I had the option to use red fuel. I plumbed it so that I could use it as an emergency tank for the engine if necessary.

I used sheet steel (1/8" I think) and welded it on both the inside and outside and then welded the top on. Worked very well.

The great thing about making your own tank is that you can get maximum capacity for the space available. If the tank is big enough, you may want to add baffles to keep fuel slosh down a bit.

You are good with fabrication, so you should have no problem.

Thanks for the reply Jim. My stock tanks are giving me fits. Only allow me to put a small diesel pump on the first click on one side. I want it so I can put a semi pump on 1 side full bore. Right now we are just using about 50 gallons because after it gets 80 gallons in tank it refuses to fill. Math says it should fit 200 with middle tank. My thoughts are take out 3 individual tanks and install 1 tank. I have the tanks from the bluebird, so I can modify that one or start from scratch....

Yes Mason I made my own. I used 1/8 stainless. I don't think you need stainless. I suggest you break one edge of the seam to be welded so you will on the radius not a straight edge you get way better welds and it is stronger.

Thanks Wayne and Jim. Wayne I don’t have a brake... I really think I’ll be fine without one. Looks like a very simple process to build a tank. That and I have the bluebird tank to copy. So this should be pretty easy right?

might even get started today lol. Been to long... busy busy summer here

I did get the bluebird fuel tank pulled. the manual says to pull it straight out the bottom. meanwhile the bus is sinking into the grass... and speaking of which with all that dead grass i was afraid to make sparks. so sawzall and cordless bandsaw it was. moved a few members with my trusty side kick aka chain hoist. felt slightly redneck

hoping i can use some things from this tank otherwise ill just be using it as a template of sorts to build my tank.
