Hi Mason

First of all, I must apologize for my question about your taillights. A post or two above that one showed your forming the housings. Great work.

I assume that the photo of your pan is to show the problem and that you replaced it with another one. In either case, do you have any idea what caused the problem?

As far as what to look for when you have the pan off, my only suggestion is to check the relationship of the oil pump pickup depth to the bottom of the pan. As I recall there are several versions of shallow pans and I wonder if there are different pickup tubes for each pan. I would think you would want the pickup to be an inch off the bottom of the pan.

Jim, no idea what caused the pan to crack. I was assuming it came in contact with something on the outside of the pan that caused it to crack, how ever when i chipped off the patch, it looked like a normal crack. Not sure why or how it cracked. We bought a new, used, oil pan, it is the same shape, however it is the casting number that superseded our old casting number. Our old pan used the older style grey gasket, the newer pan uses the newer style black gasket and bolts. Which caused a little delay to get the right gasket and bolts. But now it is installed. With no leaks! (for now :lol: )

My next project is installing air dryer. Inspired from learning that the bottom of the wet tank (first tank after aircompressor) froze up in 10 degree weather and i (of course) couldnt drain it. I have what seems to be a bendix air dryer from the parts bus. installing that in the next few days here, then i will look and the steering.

Looks good what kind of polish did you use. I have always used california custom purple and it worked well. I just bought a renegade product Rebel and Rebel red and they seem to work good also.

Right now I’m using zephyr stuff,it was recommended by a friend, so I am trying it out, this is a first for me, I’m using a power buffer with 3 stages. Then a final rub over with liquid polish. The results are very impressive.

Mason what three stages did you use? What wheel and what compound ? Would you change anything?

I also bought a rake and some micro fiber towels. Only thing else I need is one of the tougher pads, because my front wheels are in really nasty condition. I’m thinking about buying this wheel. https://zephyrpro40.com/collections/air ... fing-wheel


And here is the video on how to use the kit. As you see, your wheels have to be pretty nice. The orange wheel works really nice but only takes small pits out. Big pits or rust are stubborn.

Thank you Mason. The system I use from Eastwood does an OK job but I can't seem to get deep shine. I think that I still have some small scratches that will not get the deep shine. I must be using the wrong compound. I will look into the system you use.
