Good morning all!
I have the opportunity to buy an air assist steering system that is in (and still mounted) a model 05. My question is will it work on my model 01 and is this something that I can do my self? Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Air assist steering
Mike, I was hoping someone would give you some input.
I really do not know much about air assist, but I have read both good and "bad" things about the system. I suspect there is an adjustment procedure that would optimize the system.
I know others have made the "full pull" to a hydraulic system and have been very pleased.
Unfortunately, even with all the great technical data on this site, we have very little steering related data.

Re: Request for vote for disbanding the Eagle site
Jim,
Thanks for the reply. I have talked to several people about the unit and have heard good and bad. I have looked on the "net" for info but haven't found anything. I do though have a contact that has the "air assist steering" on his 01 Eagle and says it works fine. He did say to use it only for turning as you will run out of air if used too much. Thanks again for the reply.

Re: Air assist steering
One guy here brought his truck for the new suspension, wheel to wheel nerf bars and some LED lights installation. He mentioned about adding a power steering on his 2004. I'd be curious with your setup details.Bob Gilbert wrote:Finishing up adding hydrolic power steering to my 05 will try to post some details when done. Bob

Re: Air assist steering
I used a hfb64 steering gear used in late m10 and early m15. The only truck
gear box I have heard of was from a Mack not sure of model.
Pump I used was a Vickers mod. vtm42.
Any questions let me know and I will try to help.
Good luck Bob

Re: Air assist steering
I don't know if you are still considering the air-assist or not, but I have it on my 1975 Model 05, and it works well. I like the hissing it makes as you make a turn, but the downside is that you still have the larger steering wheel, and more turns lock to lock. My Model 10 has the full power steering, and that makes the quickest and easiest turns, but that can cost a lot to add to a manual setup. At the right price, the air assist is a good middle ground. Straight manual is an exercise program.
