As of 12/1/2021, a major update of the forum software was accomplished

Update: 4/20/2024: The Eagles email account at GoDaddy no longer works. I have set up a gmail account as a workaround: eaglesinternational.email@gmail.com (This link seems to work for my outlook email, but may not work for other email platforms. If it does not load, copy and paste the link in your platform.)

Update: 4/27/2024: I am getting some SQL error pages as I click on different areas of our forum. Using the back arrow and hitting the link again usually loads the page. I will wait for a day or two before I have GoDaddy look into the problem.

LED Headlights

Post by davido »

Is anyone running anything like this?

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i ... tive%2C208

I'm not sure what is DOT legal and what isn't. The tech article talked about a euro spec that is widely used but not DOT legal. Curious how modern LEDs compare.

I just put some 7"ers on my 69 Suburban and like them so far.

David, the link you provided goes to an Amazon page for LED driving lights as opposed to headlights. I had been looking at LED driving lights to supplement my headlights, but it has not come up to the top of the "must have" list. For sure, the lights on that page would not qualify as headlights.

Concerning headlights, I uploaded an article from Bus Conversions magazine that I wrote several years ago. It covers improving our existing headlights using relays and discusses DOT vs European technology. It does not cover some of the newer technologies. Here is the link to our articles page: http://eaglesinternational.net/category/articles. The headlight article is down the page a bit.

I hope this thread might encourage others to tell us what they have done to improve the headlights in their Eagles.

So far, these are the best LED headlights that are DOT approved, and will fit our buses.

Luvrbus, you ended up with 50 LED headlights? Are they Dialight or Speakman? Are you interested in selling any? My email is chris@giles1.com

Thanks!

All of the buses at Disney use LED lights. They are made in England and I think they are Digilights. They are not good, hot spot in the middle.

I have retained the dual 5 3/4 headlights as I think they are great looking. The replacement LED headlights are probably quite expensive (times 4) and are, in my mind, butt ugly.

I have made the relay update on mine and that helped quite a bit. I would like to go the Cibie headlight route, but just can't justify the cost since we avoid driving at night.

I have some driving lights that I wanted to adapt, but they don't look so good either. I think the LED offroad lights could be made to look ok (recessed in the bumper), but that is a project down the list.

I use Dialight on my Gilligs and have been happy with them. I only use the low beam models, and left the standard halogen high beams in place. They do give the bus a different look, but a lot of transit agencies are switching to LED. I'm not sure they'd look right on an Eagle, though.
