Mine looks exactly the same on my 8v71, it has a plug in it similar to a freeze plug.

Did you ever get this figured out? The picture you posted, looks exactly like my leak. (front-top of engine, directly in front of the blower). Makes a nice, big pond of oil, and runs down the left side like a waterfall. I've buttoned it up for the winter, but before I start tearing it apart in the spring, I'd like to have an idea of what I'm looking for.

Most of the time the leak is elsewhere and just pools in the low spot there and runs over giving the appearance as though it's coming from there when in fact it is more likely a valve cover or maybe the governor cover or some other nearby area.

Turned out to be a leaking front seal on the Blower. Coming out at the bottom, under the Governor, pooling, and flowing down the left side of the engine. Nothing easy about it.
