Bay Door Prop Cylinders

Post by buscrazyinFL »

As you can see in the first picture my bay doors are not closing all the way where the gas props go. I ordered some new ones from Jefferson thinking the old ones were bad but it's still doing the same thing. If I disconnect the gas prop and close the doors they shut flush. I even took one of the old ones out and cut it down a bit but it is still not closing flush.

Any advice on why this is happening? I'd rather not have to move the original factory brackets. That would involve so much work.
Just can't seem to figure out why they are doing this.

Eventually I'd like to get that shop in South Carolina with the new barn to make me some Café Doors :D

Yep when someone installed the hinge rubber they did not stretch it you take vise grips on each end and pull it as hard as you can before installing the set screws IMO cafe doors suck it takes 4 ft to walk around one but they look nice

Another problem with cafe doors is that they will blow open (could scratch the adjacent aluminum skin), or closed (and the latch can scratch the mated door). However, I love mine. I don't have to lift the doors (nice in my old age). I don't have to worry about the rubber hinge, the hydraulic lifters, or any of the other problems. Like Clifford says, you do need a bit more room, but I have not found that to be a problem.

I have fabricated rods to keep the doors from blowing open or closed (I stole my concept of the rods from Wayne Schell. He is one of those people I know that does everything right).

Again, I love my cafe doors. One of the very best things done to our bus.

Hi Manny,

The name of the shop is Shyster Bus & RV located in Shysterville, SC.

They can certainly do those cafe doors for you. While you're at it, you might as well let them paint your pulleys.

(I did mine red)

Love our cafe doors. They are paired so that going down the road kind of makes it impossible for the doors to blow open. The front half door closes over the half rear door. No lifting heavy doors, replacing struts, rubber hinges, or batting ones brains out on the door.
