What is considered the best lube for the fan-pillow block, grease or 90 wt gear oil?

The shaft just goes through the housing there is nothing inside that requires any type lubrication, you just grease the bearing on each end about every 10,000 miles

Thanks for the reply. I"m referring to the pillow block that the fan mount to. It has a 1/4" plastic brake tubing attached to the top of it that goes to a grease cert attached to a vertical frame member just to the right and above the alternator. I just read the service manual, lube section, and it states EP 90 gear lube. Have always used chassis lube. Currently replacing the radiator and now is a good time to check the bearings in it and the belt tensioner. I don't understand how it could hold gear oil.

I use a good grease. It will not hold oil. I grease mine every day I use the bus. While you have that hub off I would change the bearings. You can get the bearing at any bearing shop. Very easy to change.

Ok some model 15's did have a gear angle drive there that used 90w similar to a Prevost my 15 with the series 60 had that type with a fan clutch

Your post was a bit confusing because the pillow block was described by Clifford.

You were asking about the fan bearing. It is inexpensive, so replace it now while you are in there. Keep it greased.

I am still lost as to what bearing is involved here. A picture would help a bunch.

The only bearing with a flexible lube connection that I am aware of is the belt tensioner. That bearing gets neglected since the zerk is not obvious.

BTW, we are all assuming that this is a stock installation. After my Series 60 conversion, non of that drive system is stock and I do have a gear box that requires gear lube.

Where the fan hub is there is a maybe 4 inch round box. It has a bearing on both sides.

The grease zerk is remoted on most I have found.

The manual asks for 4 squirts or something similar. I fill it up! I've had to replace it. (in the Yukon!)

Joe, my hub assembly is long gone with the conversion, but I don't recall being able to grease it. I have attached a couple of photos from the parts manual to make sure we are talking about the same parts. In the parts manual and/or the maintenance manual it does talk about a fan clutch.
