All,
I have a 1984 Silver Eagle with the 6V92 converted to automatic and when I accelerate it blows out black smoke from the exhaust pipe. Once I'm going at a steady speed hardly no black exhaust is noticeable. Only when I get on the pedal, either from stop and go or accelerate to get to a faster speed.

The black smoke is probably normal. The smoke will occur until the turbo builds pressure.

In those years Eagle had a couple of ways of trying to control the acceleration smoke. They tend to make acceleration a bit slow and some folks defeat the systems. Sounds like someone did that on your bus.

You may see a puff of black smoke when accelerating if the throttle delay has been removed. Drive with a light foot.

More likely you have a turbo leak.

Black smoke is unburned fuel. Too much fuel for the amount of air available.

Get someone who hears better to listen for a high pitched whine when you are accelerating.

Check all the clamps and air tube connections from the turbo to the intake horn.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I was looking over my exhaust and observed two areas where it connects with clamps and observed some exhaust leaking around those clamps. I will work on tightening up those and go from there.
