Bad Blower?

Post by jcb »

I've been struggling with a fairly serious oil leak on the left side of the 8V71. It's on our 83' Model 10, and before I either hire the front taken off, or do it myself, we could use some advice. I have already gotten some idea's from Cliff and Steve Weaterford, (they both think it may be a bad rear Water Pump Seal), I started it after power washing it yesterday....and here's what I found. Looks like a waterfall (of oil) is flowing down behind the water pump area...but higher. AND there is a pretty large lake in the cupped area in front of the Blower. Is there a hose there? I can't see it without taking off the top air on top of the blower. It is, by the way, aspirated. Not a turbo. Here are my questions;
1- Where is the number on the blower for the part number?
2- The Engine number is stamped right below the huge leak, and it is; 8VA-420975
7083-7005
3- I'm assuming it is some sort of Blower Seal. Will it need to be rebuilt, and what is the cost of a rebuild? And is there a hose that could be leaking up front. I know about the supply hose at the rear.
4- And WHO/WHAT kind of shop does this? We have had a terrible time finding anyone who is willing to work on an older DD in Lower Michigan.
You may be asking yourself, why don't I go back to Cliff and Steve about this?......well, I feel I've bothered them enough.

Thanks to all,

jc
