Eric,
In 2001, Lani and I rode a ferry across the Bay of Fundy (its salt water even though it is in Canada). I have to admit though, we were in an enclosed ferry. You may be more vulnerable. Sorry to see such a beautiful bus subject to worries like that.

I was really pretty smoth. We were just off the coast. I took a shower ate breakfast and took a little nap!!LOL Tom and Karen Hamrick suggested the ferry after they did it. You can get to Cape Hattaras by road, but not Ocracoke. We came in from the south. First ferry at Cedar point is app. two hours, and the next app. 45 min.

Hey Eric,
Looking closely, I see that they have a crane up front just in case you don't make it off on the ramp. Did you?

I did but a little problem. When I went off the ramp my hitch hung on the rampoa little, which putt my emergency stop on the trailer. Smoked the brakes a little but ok I think.

In Texas when Dick and Di where at our place he went on the Bolivar to Galveston ferry not a long ride 30 or 40 minutes he loved it he was real excited when it was free I think he rode the ferry everyday for a week lol
He always worried being from CA we were going to jail for parking on the water edge in a city park he never stopped thinking and asking about that for a week, the free parking, free water, and free dump blew him away, we could have had 30 amp electricity for 5 bucks a day I like ferrys we did the one in out of BC one year along with Alaska Marine Highway
