Wanting Information on Changing DD-3's to Springbrakes
I have been asking this question on other boards and thought I would post it here.
I have information that someone has done this before, but have had no luck on a diagram or How To Do It.
Norris at Jefferson could not find it, and several others can't either. It has been said it is a very easy fix and changeover.
I just would like to know how it's properly done. Otherwise I will rebuild what I have this week and continue the research.
Any new information would be great.

Re: Wanting Information on Changing DD-3's to Springbrakes
Hi Paul.
If someone does find that paper/photos/details on the conversion, it would be great to post it in our Tech Section.
Someone noted that there could be some liability issues with such a conversion (and posting the details). I am not sure how we would address the issue. Perhaps we could put a few warnings including that welding must be done by a "certified" welder.
Personally, I think the conversion to spring brakes would be the way to go and would not hesitate to make the conversion (already have them ).
One item to consider, Eagle used a relay valve that prevented the spring brakes from coming on full tilt all at once. I have heard it said that you can pull the valve and the bus will have a reasonably controlled, smooth stop. I don't believe that trucks have that type of valve. My guess is that Eagle (and perhaps others) used that valving system to minimize passenger injury in the event of an accidental valve activation. I would go with the "full on" system and not get overly complicated.

Hi Jim,
I will post the information once I receive it.
I just emailed Mark at Eagle Nest, right now he is my last resort as others have not gotten back to me yet. We'll see.

That's great Clifford, Thanks
I'm heading to Orlando on Sunday, returning home on Friday. So this will be a good time to continue the research.

Re: Wanting Information on Changing DD-3's to Springbrakes
Jim France said he would scan the document and email it to me on Monday. I'm excited about reviewing it and hopefully finally making a decision. I'm sure glad I don't have a trip planned soon!

Clifford,
Do you a part number for the SR-1 and application valves?

Re: Wanting Information on Changing DD-3's to Springbrakes
Nevermind. I did a search on the Bendix site and found the data sheets on the SR-1. I did not realize that was a Bendix valve number....
https://www.bendix.com/EN-US/SERVICE/LI ... heets.aspx
I think I now understand how it all works.

Re: Wanting Information on Changing DD-3's to Springbrakes
OK, here is what I think I need. Please tell me if I'm on the right track. This has been a great learning experience for me, and I'm glad for it. Still have never received the documentation on changing from DD-3 to Spring Brake.
1 ea. Bendix PP-DC Park Control Vavle
http://www.bendixvrc.com/itemDisplay.as ... entID=4816
1 ea. Bendix QR-N Quick Release Valve
http://www.bendixvrc.com/itemDisplay.as ... entID=4977
1 ea. Bendix SR-1 Spring Brake Valve
http://www.bendixvrc.com/itemDisplay.as ... entID=4069
2 ea. MGM 3030 Piggy Back Spring Brake
http://www.anythingtruck.com/Merchant2/ ... 60-3430051
I should be able to get all of this for less than the cost of one DD-3 rebuilt.
I will use the DOT nylon tubing and new fittings where necessary.
