travel through Houston

Post by rusty »

What is the best way thru Houston? We usually go north on 49 to 20 then to the panhandle and home. The weather is not all that good north of Lafayette so we are going to take 10 west to Junction then north to home.
Thank you Wayne

You didn't say where you're coming from to get to Houston, but I'd suggest I 45 north up to I 20 west in the DFW area. Then take I 35 W going north up to US 287 north to Wichita Falls and Amarillo.

yes we are coming from Lafayette and the bad weather is north of here. I am thinking we will go west through Houston and San Antonio then north and be behind the storm. I am not sure if I should use 10 or 610 to get through Houston. Will probably take 610 around the north side. Was thinking about you Bob while I ate my fill of mudbugs.

if anyone is intrested I took 610 north around Houston. It was OK but can't tell you if it is better than I 10
On another note west bound I10 at Louisiana state line in Texas has some bumps that will but the frost heaves in Canada to shame. That is the worst stretch of road I have ever driven

Wayne, glad you made it through Houston in one piece. I hate driving there. I 10 is terrible in many places. We used to drive it a lot in the LA area and each expansion strip would jar your teeth out. A few years ago they ground it and that made it better.

I hope you have your snow equipment available when you get home. We have had over 3 feet of snow the past few days.
