PLEASE!! Do Not Ask for Technical Advice "off line"

Post by beltguy »

The problem of folks asking for technical help via the "contact me" page or via direct email continues.

I don't know how to say it any stronger:

I simply can't/won't spend my limited resources trying to answer questions not posted in this forum

I have discussed this problem in this thread:

http://eagles-international.net/forums/ ... f=8&t=4571

Here is the first post of that thread:
Folks, I spend a lot of time trying to keep this board running and answering technical questions on the forum when I can contribute. It is important to me be a part of, and support in any way I can, a forum that contains an amazing amount of Eagle information.

We grow our information base through the threads on this forum where folks ask for help. By posting on this forum, you get the benefit of exposure to many folks who can offer advice/help. Even more important, you get the benefit of having the various replies vetted by other knowledgeable folks so that the best possible answer(s) evolve. Lastly, questions/comments can be viewed/searched by all readers/members of this forum.

Lately, several folks have tried to get technical advice via the "contact me" page. On that page I clearly (in big red print) state that the contact me page is ***only*** for discussion of communication problems on the forum. Those "contact me" forms come to me and I must take the time to respond to the person stating why we have a very strong policy of only addressing technical issues via this forum.

In the past two weeks I have had folks write directly to me to ask technical questions. Again, I must take the time to respond to the person.

Put simply, there is only one person administering this forum and it takes a lot of time and I am getting close to the burn-out stage. In the past, I tried to help anyone that contacted me, but I have had to make the decision that I can no longer do that.

It is easy (and free) to register for this forum: http://eaglesinternational.net/eagles-i ... c5e11552dd

I will always answer questions on this forum (if I can contribute).

Folks, I am sorry to bring this up again, but the number of emails and phone calls asking for technical help has been increasing. This is happening at a particularly rough period in my life - I have become a 24 hour caretaker for my wife who was in a very serious accident a couple of weeks ago.

This forum was created for sharing information and for asking questions. That process has resulted in a huge reservoir of information available to any reader. The search engine works pretty good, but if you post a question that has already been asked we will point you in the right direction.

If you are not a registered member of the forum you will not see the search option. I encourage you to register - it is simple and free and open to the public. The link is: http://eagles-international.net/forums/ ... 84ba61392e

The other problem with asking me for technical support is that I am not an expert by any means. When questions are posted here I will offer my thoughts if I have experience.

Thanks for understanding

I am sorry to bring this to the top again, but I continue to get technical questions addressed to my Eagles email address.

The whole purpose of this forum is to share Eagle information - both questions and comments.

As noted before and also noted in my signature, technical questions will not be answered.

It is fine to contact me if there is an issue with the forum, but all other questions should be posted on the forum.

Well Jim,
I will step up. LOL!!!
As the great and knowledgeable Oz of the forum and "Beltguy" himself can you give me part numbers for the fan and alternator belts for my (standardly configured) Model 7?
I am having some maint done before I fly in to drive it cross country and would like to order them for the mechanic to save time.   Thanks!
You can answer me in PM. I won't tell Admin. LOL!  In all seriousness, I really appreciate being a part of your forum and thanks.
I will... of course,,, expect and appreciate my answer here or in the tech chat if this info is out there and you can just send me a link.
Thanks again for everything! Also, if anyone would like to steal this gem from me before I fly in. Just let me know. It is a great unit on the way to being spectacular. Model 7 baby only 45 ever made!!! Could be yours???!!!???

Hi Matt

I did not consider you to be an offender.  First of all you have registered.  Many folks do not want to be bothered to follow the rules.  Secondly you contacted me because of a forum issue and that is quite acceptable.

Now to your question.  Depending on what comes of the answers, I will probably break the question about the belts out into a separate thread so that it can be searched easily.

I do not know much about an Model 7,  If you can take some pictures of the engine compartment, I can maybe tell if it is the same belt setup as an 05 or 10.  If it is, there are several good threads on belt drives for those models.

So sorry to hear of your wife's accident. I will say a prayer for you both. Thank you. I did a quick search and found everything I need to order some 3v450 and BX86 belts. However would you recommend a banded belt for that alternator or 3 individual 3v450's?  Anyone can answer... If it is a good one. LOL!

Also Jim, I did not feel you were talking about me.  And, I greatly enjoyed our conversation earlier in the month on general info.  Good thoughts going out to you and yours!

My understanding is a model 7 is essentially a model 5 but instead of 96 inches wide it is 102...

The belts you list are correct for the 05 and 10 as far as I know.  I hope you are correct about the 07 being the same.

I would go with the banded belts, as they are more stable.  In this application that is not a big deal, but I know my bus had the banded belts.

Pat's accident was in 2019..  After several surgeries she has pretty much recovered without issues.  Thanks for the thoughts.
