Hi can someone tell me the year my trans was manufactured?
It's the Allison 740D serial number 14417
model number HT740D 6J11
The web is useless.
Cheers Tony

!973/1974 Allison started using the 14 letters and numbers to identify the year made and specs in 79/80,the 740 was in 300 thousand numbers in 1984 a tough transmission that lasted with very few changes over the years

Thanks for that, i was trying to find out what flex plate and ring gear combination i need to fit my 740d onto my 1997 Cummins M11 celect plus i was told by Walter [ Double Eagle ] to ask you if you have any know how on this? I will throw a couple pics here for you to look at if that's ok? The hub in the centre of the trans is approx 60mm but the hole where it locates on the back of the crank is only about 50mm  So i have to assume the flex plate allows for this? Otherwise i'm screwed!
