Eagle VIN Number Decoded?

Post by beltguy »

Using my VIN number (1EUA6A12FB031530) and some information posted in various groups I have attempted to recreate the numbering system Eagle developed to meet the 17 digit VIN number format mandated by the government in the ‘80s

The first digit signifies plant: 1 is Brownsville, and 2 is Harlingen plant

The second digit is E which signifies Eagle

The third and fourth digits are U and A which signify United
States

The fifth digit signifies engine cylinders 6 or 8

The sixth digit represents the transmission: A for automatic

The seventh thru tenth digits are reported to be computer generated

The eleventh and twelfth digits give more information about the bus, examples:
02 Trailways Model 10
03 All other seated model 10
04 Australian RHD
05 Suburban 10S
06 Suburban TW
07 Model 15
08 Model 15 TW/GH
09 Model 20

The last 4 digits are the equivalent of the original serial number

I would welcome discussion to confirm or correct the above information.
