Just for the final info.....................all sorts of problems getting that thing off. It's never easy is it? Anyway, it is indeed a Small Bearing Blower for the DD 8V71N engine. The Serial #'s that are the OEM are
5103588 or 5103495 or 5103494 .Mine is a 494 which has been replaced by the 495. I'm on the hunt now for a reasonably priced used or rebuilt one. Plenty out there on ebay. New ones from DD are in the $1200 plus range.Rebuilt ones are $400 plus. As usual, Cliff and Jim were right on the money with their advice.

If it wasn't for the governor control rods going through the heads or the power steering pump running off the back it wouldn't be that bad lol just think you could have had top mounted turbo to deal with

Here's the final solution to the Blower problem. First, I gave up on finding the perfect replacement. 2nd, I decided to stick with the one that came off it, and have it rebuilt. Seems not too many shops/people want to "mess with it". So after doing an Internet hunt.......I found Dyers Blowers in Summit, Il. They specialize in Hot Rod and Racing Conversions and New Blowers, but they also have a service called "Wash and Set". That means they take it apart, clean it,put new seals and bearings in it, bead blast it, align it, and send it back to you in a nice heavy duty box. They were pleasant and helpful to deal with, and have been at it since the early 70's. Total cost was $395 plus shipping. Excellent job. Excellent deal. Now all I have to do is put it back on.
