Alternator
Bus lights flicker when bus is running. Voltage test shows output of alternator cycles between 14 and 14.99 volts back and forth. I put on a new voltage regulator but it doesn't seem to keep one steady voltage. What am I missing? It is the regulator with the adjustment nut in the middle. It was supposed to be NEW when I bought it last year. Help.

Re: Alternator
If you haven't adjusted it, you might have to dig up your manual and see how to adjust one properly. I did it a few years back on my 01.
I forget what model you have. Also any power train information. If you put it in your signature, it would help to answer questions.
Grounds are important as Andy suggested, but it sounds like it could be something else. Maybe our buddy Clifford will see this.

Re: Alternator
I would change the charging relay or check it to be sure no one has installed a 12v relay those are a 6v relay

Re: Alternator
Had same problem, a few months back. Ran a good ground wire to the charging relay ground wire. Problem fix.

Re: Alternator
It's in the rear electrical panel. Should be marked charge or volt reg.

Re: Alternator
Looking at the back engine electrical panel, on the left upper side. You will see four relays. Sometimes all four are grounded together. And sometimes they are grounded individually. The 6 volt relays have a tab sticking up on the back side. But if you are getting power output from your generator and the power is fluctuating. Find the ground wire on the 6 volt relay and connect a good ground to it. I do think you will see a difference. Or i hope you will.

Re: Alternator
Do the lights flicker when the engine (alternator) is not running? That would be a clear indicator the problem is in the lighting circuit as compared to the voltage regulator / alternator. BTW check the grounds on the voltage reg and alternator. Check your battery bank ground to be sure it is good.
Clifford is on the right track re the 12v versus 6v charging relay. I had that problem once, but my voltmeter would not show voltage and my generator light was on (no charge).
